Nawab Of Bahawalpur ~Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V
Nawab of Bahawalpur Born in the Historic fort of Dearwar on 29
th Sep, 1904. He
was the only son as well as only legal heir of Nawab Muhammad
Bahawal Khan Abbasi V. He was only 2 and half years of age, when his father
passed away. Sir Rahim Buksh as being the President of Council of Regency ruled
the state on his behalf until 1924.
Early Education & Tittles
He got his early education from Aitchison Collage, Lahore . Later after
reaching the age of 15 , he fought in the third Afghan war in 1919 and was in
the commanding forces in the Second World War from Middle East. He Started his
army career as Lieutenant in 1921 in British Indian Army , Promoted to the rank
of Major in the year 1932 , then to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1941 and finally to Major
General in the Year 1946. He got the Tittle of
Ameer of Bahwalpur on 15
thAugust 1947. He was also the executive member of Chamber of Princes .
After Partition
Before partition, State of
Bahawalpur has the best, competent, trained and professional team of Civil servants.
The state has the Ministerial Cabinet which was headed by the Prime Minister.
There was the State Bank named as Bank
of Bahawalpur which has the branches which has also its Branches in Karachi
and Lahore. There was the complete system of Judiciary having High Court and
Lower Courts. The state of Bahawalpur has its own State Police and army that were
trained from the Royal Indian Military Academy at Dehra Doon . Nawab is
very famous for his special interest in Education and provided free education
to the students of the state. The state also provided scholarships on merit for
higher education . He even donated 500 acres of state’s land to build Sadiq
Public School that has the Tittle of Biggest
School of the Asia .
The State was
vested into Pakistan on 5th October 1947 by stamping the first state that
joined Pakistan .The state was the part of West Pakistan and Nawab of Bahawalpur
was to receive a yearly stipend, or privy
purse, of 32 lakhs of rupees and was to keep the title of Nawab of Bahawalpur
and its precedence both inside and outside Pakistan. Nawab of Bahawalpur was
very Generous towards the Pakistan. He was the close friend Of Quaid e Azam .
He gave 70 million rupees to Pakistan to pay the salaries of 1st
month of the job for Government institutions. He gifted his private property to
the University of the Punjab, King Edward Medical College and the Mosque of
Aitchison College, Lahore.
Death , Burial & Legacy
Nawab of
Bahawalpur was died in May 1966 at the age of 61, in London, he remained the Nawab for 59 Years .
Hiis body was brought back to Bahawalpur and was buried in his family's
ancestral graveyard at Derawer Fort with great honor and pride.Curretnly Nawab Salah u Din Abbasi Holds the tittle of Nawab of Bahawalpur
